John Choi is the President of Epiphany Capital, a registered investment advisory firm based in the Chicagoland area. Since 1993, John has provided a team-based, solutions-oriented approach to wealth planning and investment management. While the firm implements investment and insurance solutions for a small number of successful families, business owners, executives, and specialized physicians, their best work for their best clients is done at a strategic level as a family wealth coach.
As part of his unique process, John helps his clients clarify their true wealth, provides direction to make wise choices with their wealth, and gives them the confidence to maintain their journey toward success. He is a strong proponent of educational workshops to help clients become smarter consumers of financial products and services.
A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, John guides his clients through a formal yet customized process to ultimately produce a plan that is in direct alignment with their values. His services include investment risk management through asset allocation, insurance needs analysis, stock option planning, estate planning, charitable gifting strategies, and legacy planning. He is a graduate of the National Institute for Estate Planners and holds the professional designation of Graduate Estate Planning Consultant (GEPC). In addition, he has authored several articles, including “A Brief Overview of Employee Stock Options”, “A Five-Step Approach to Repairing Your Portfolio”, and “Five Questions Every Investor Must Ask Their Advisor”. John’s leisure activities include golf and fishing. He lives in the suburbs of Chicago with his wife and three children.
Our Investment Philosophy
We believe markets are efficient. Only a handful of active managers beat the market in any year. The problem is no one can predict which managers will win each year. Because of this, we focus on minimizing costs, and structuring each portfolio so that it is in alignment with each client’s risk tolerance, time horizon and values.
Instead of trying to beat the markets, we focus on capturing market returns. While this doesn’t sound exciting, the fact is that $100,000 invested into a diversified portfolio 35 years ago grows to over $11,000,000—all without stock picking, market timing, or researching past winners. Investors already know that there are rules of investing—buy low sell high, diversify, and hold long-term. Unfortunately, the financial industry at-large consistently breaks all three of these rules. Then they wonder why they get poor performance! One of the main goals of our coaching program is help you adhere to the rules of investing…and reap the benefits.
